HELEN LOTTER
Helen Lötter is a full time practicing artist specialising in printmaking. She completed her BA Fine Arts Degree in 2018 at the University of Pretoria and is currently persuing an Honours degree in Philosophy. Apart from working as a professional artist, she has also worked for the department of philosophy at the University of Pretoria for 7 years. Helen Lötter has participated in numerous exhibitions locally and internationally. In 2018 she won the Art on Paper award at the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards and she has been a finalist at Sasol New Signatures in 2019 and 2022.
Conceptually her work aims to asses the material aspects of information processing to argue for the preservation of knowledge. The primary focus of her work is to incorporate the use of obsolete technology to produce artworks that are materially significant in their attempt to create a system that may conserve knowledge. Printmaking is historically significant for its use in the redistribution of information and its protocols used to set standards in archiving and is therefore the artists medium of choice.
